Innovative Events

Professional staff, supported by the psychiatric consultants, have launched innovative psycho-social interventions. They are also assessing the impact of such interventions to bring about improvements in the strategies. These interventions are through therapeutic programmes, celebration and recreational activities.

  • MPA has introduced some innovative therapeutic programmes for the residents to bring  about behaviour changes and encourage them to think of innovative ideas by giving them hope. Some of the innovative therapeutic activities initiated at MPA are as follows:

  • Celebrations of various festivals are observed as the residential community composed of residents from different cultural background.  These occasions foster bonding, tolerance, encourage the feelings of rejoicing, unity and belonging to the country! Some of the festivities observed are:

    Onam

    Ayudha puja

    Diwali

    Diwali Celebration 2012

    Christmas

  • Recreational outings

    Recreational activities such as annual picnic, flower show, exhibitions, movies, shopping, lunch outs, etc., are held to boost the level of functioning of the residents and to build skills that will rehabilitate and restore the sense well being. Apart from recreation, they provide opportunity to get exposed to external environment and to develop their social skills.

    Outings are encouraged to help residents move out of their amotivation

    Annual Picnic: It is an activity organized for applying skills learnt at the center. With adequate preparation residents of MPA are taken out to scenic sites for the Annual picnic. A full day-out accompanied by staff  have been provided. Some of the places visited are

    • Innovative Film City, Bidadi
    • Mysore Palace, Brindavan Gardens, Mysore Zoo
    • Bannerghatta Zoo
    • Planetarium, Cubbon Park, Musical Fountain

    Meal-out: Once in two months an experience of a different culinary is provided for all the residents. Vegetarians and Non-vegetarians get to choose from a menu, plan within their budget and taste a meal different to what they get every day at MPA

    Movie-out: Once in two months residents are taken out for a movie at the theater. The choice is made as a group. Flexibility is practiced and according to the preferred language of the majority, different movies are seen. Learning to budget their expenses as they get a reason to experience travel, shop and see a movie and also dress up.
